How to Donate a Harley-Davidson

Donating a Harley to support veterans is simple — running or not, any model, free pickup nationwide. Here's how it works.

A Harley-Davidson is the kind of motorcycle people hold onto. Maybe it's been in the garage since a knee gave out, maybe it was a project that never quite got finished, or maybe it belonged to someone who's no longer around and the family isn't sure what to do with it. Whatever the story, donating it is one of the most meaningful ways to move it on — and it directly supports U.S. veterans. MotorcycleDonations.org, operated by Salute Veterans Inc. (a veteran-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit), accepts Harley-Davidson donations nationwide.

Every Harley Model, Running or Not

We accept the full Harley-Davidson lineup — Sportster, Softail, Dyna, Touring (Road King, Street Glide, Electra Glide, Road Glide), CVO, V-Rod, the Big Twins, and the older Evolution and Shovelhead bikes too. Stripped-down bobbers and fully dressed baggers alike. And condition is rarely a dealbreaker: a Harley that won't turn over, has a blown motor, sat under a cover for a decade, lost its battery years ago, or is mid-rebuild with parts in a box is still very much donatable. The tow driver doesn't need to ride it away — they bring the trailer.

We Take More Than Harleys

Harley-Davidson is what most people picture, but we accept every make. Honda, Indian, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph, Victory, Moto Guzzi — cruisers, sport bikes, touring rigs, adventure bikes, dual-sports, dirt bikes, trikes, and scooters all qualify. If you have a bike with a title (or can get one), the make and model almost never stand in the way.

How the Donation Works

Is My Harley Donation Tax-Deductible?

Yes. Salute Veterans Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit (Tax ID 84-2016237), so your motorcycle donation qualifies for a federal tax deduction. Your deduction is generally the amount the bike sells for at auction. If it sells for more than $500 — which many Harleys do — your receipt includes IRS Form 1098-C, the document the IRS expects for vehicle deductions above that threshold. Check with your tax advisor about your specific situation.

What About the Title?

Motorcycle titles can be messier than car titles — bikes change hands often, paperwork goes missing, and some states have motorcycle-specific rules. A lost title, a parts-bike title, or a bike still in a late relative's name doesn't necessarily stop the donation. These are situations we work through regularly, so call us before you assume your Harley doesn't qualify. If you're donating a bike you inherited, our guide on donating an inherited motorcycle walks through the extra steps, and our motorcycle title guide covers the quirks in detail.

Where Your Donation Goes

After standard pickup and auction costs are covered, the net proceeds from your Harley-Davidson go to Salute Veterans Inc. — funding veteran employment programs, transition support, and the public resources we operate for the veteran community nationwide. A bike that's been sitting becomes real support for those who served.
